Dulwich Dog Walker

St Pauls on River Thames
I had a lovely time this morning with our new Dulwich Dog Walker, following a successful meeting with a new client for cat sitting, we had a short walk along one of the jewels of London dog walking, that of walking along the Thames.
The client was just by the Globe Theatre in Southwark, so walking along the River Thames here was great. It was especially special today, the dry day combined with the low winter sun, really meant the Thames and the historic local buildings were wonderful, if I was a Monet, who had a great period of painting along the areas alongside the Thames, I would have had a field day.

Globe Theatre Southwark
This area as well as the Globe Theatre is also the home to the Tate Gallery, if only Battersea Power station can be saved in the same way as the Tate, we will be all better off. Whilst the area does not have the green open spaces of Dulwich Park, there are small grass patches, there is one just between the Globe theatre and the Tate Modern, shielded by some beautiful silver birches.
If you want to go north across the Thames, you can use the infamous millennium bridge, dogs may have been worried walking across it originally. It was named originally the wobbling bridge by Londoners, as it wobbled!! So shortly after opening in 2000 it was closed for a couple of years as it was modified to stop the wobbling, which they did.

St Pauls from Millenium Bridge
So if you walk across the millennium bridge now, you have a great view of St Pauls cathedral and its Dome as you cross. In its own right it is a piece of art and was rightfully chosen as winner in the 1996 competition run by Southwark council. It was called the “blade of light” and was designed by Arup, Foster and Partners and Sir Anthony Caro and is London’s only pedestrian steel suspension bridge.
It was lunchtime, so there were not many dog walkers around, but I came across two lovely six year old Pomeranians, a lovely dog. They are one of the toy dogs with the most stamina, especially as their owner was walking them as part of his programme to climb Mount Kilimanjaro next year. I do not know why but Pomeranian dogs are often kept in pairs.

So a different London dog walking route, but one which is a pleasure on a day like today. Sarah the Dulwich Dog Walker will certainly be happy with dog walking in the area of Southwark along the River Thames.
