The search for the best dog training guide can be tedious. With so many guides and methods on the market it can be hard to know which one is as good as it claims to be. But there are things you can look for in a dog training guide that can assist you in your search.

Find the Best Dog Trainer

You will want to know about the author of the guide first and foremost. If you pick a guide written by a trainer that has minimum experience you will probably not be successful in your efforts.

The guide you select should be written by someone with experience, and preferably a trainer who has been certified. Proven training skills can only be taught by someone who has practiced those skills and found them to be effective over a number of years. It would be a good idea to do research on some of the dog trainers you are considering so you can be sure that they actually have experience and are not just trying to make a few easy dollars.

The Program

After you’ve narrowed down your author search, you need to move on to finding a training program that suits your own particular needs. For example, if your dog has already mastered basic obedience and your goal is to teach the dog some tricks, you will want to find a book that goes beyond obedience training. If you haven’t trained a dog before, you need a book that’s designed especially for beginners and contains simple terminology and practical concepts that a newcomer can master easily.

Sometimes a particular program may be geared toward a specific breed of dog. You do not necessarily need a training program like this, but in some instances they can be very good. Even for pure bred dogs, there is no need to buy the most expensive guide out there; a higher cost does not necessarily indicate higher quality information. There is no need to think that one guide is better than another unless the content proves it. In order to determine whether or not the techniques you read about will work for you, check out both the trainer/author and the program.

Do Not Pick A Fad Training Program

As with all specialized fields, the world of dog training is prone to produce some newer and “better” training methods. Steer clear of training programs like this – they sound good but they’re rarely effective. People that come up with these fad programs are often just trying to make some quick money. A lot of the time you will not get the results you want with these programs because they are hard to teach all together. You should stick to methods that have been on the market for years rather than switching to something shiny and new.

You’re more likely to be successful in your dog training effort if you take these factors into consideration before you buy a dog training guide.  If you are serious about properly training your dog, you must choose the best guide – just follow these tips and it will be easy.
