Shih Tzu Dog Training
Shih Tzu dogs are typically kept as pets for their companionship, and not as work dogs, which makes Shih Tzu training somewhat easier. Companion dogs cover a variety of breeds and dog sizes, including Pomeranian, Pekingese, Pug, the Alsatian Shepalute (not to be confused with the Alsatian or German Shepherd), and Elos among others. Because they are not working dogs, Shih Tzu obedience training focuses on making them better pets rather than training them specific skills such as droving, hunting, foxing, or retrieving. Show dogs, however, will require special show-related training.

Puppy potty training is another important component of training Shih Tzu dogs. Like many smaller breed dogs, Shih Tzu generally need to go potty more often than larger dogs. Shih Tzu dogs are also somewhat excitable, which can cause them to have “accidents” in the house if you do not properly potty train a puppy.
Puppy Potty Training Tips: Patience is certainly a virtue when it comes to puppy toilet training. For some puppies, it can take 7-10 days for them to feel at home in your home. Puppy potty training should never be rushed, just be persistent and they should have it down in a few days to about a week. Keep in mind that you should never strike your puppy. So often, novice dog owners get upset when puppy eliminates in the house or somewhere he or she is not supposed to. Don’t hit your puppy and don’t shove their little face in their poo or urine. As furious as you may be, remember that you puppy is doing the best it can. And keep in mind that training your Shih Tzu will only need to be done once. Puppy potty training may be a pain at the time, but once it’s done, it’s done. When puppies and dogs are physically punished, often they are not clear WHY they are being punished and they may start to be frightened of the person doing the punishing, (in this case, YOU). The best Shih Tzu dog training techniques will never include hitting or other mean actions.
