Furthermore, there are some other diseases the Yorkshire Terrier dogs are predisposed to due some of their genes inherited from the Terrier breeds ancestors. The first disorder you need to know about is known as liver shunt, which is where the blood bypasses the liver of the dog. This means that many toxins are not able to be dispersed through the liver, resulting in all sorts of complications.

Hypoglycemia is another disorder that can affect Yorshire Terriers, especially puppies. This disease can cause the death of the puppy unless it is treated immediately, because it decreases the overall energy capacity of the dog.

There is of course one thing about the Yorkshire Terrier dog that is beneficial in the area of health and that is they are less likely to suffer from arthritis which is very common in dogs of a larger size. All along their entire lives, Yorkies have a very small probability of contracting this type of disease, due to their small frame.
